After an unexpected trip to Nantucket six years ago, I was inspired
to bring the Nantucket look to a soon to be constructed “cottage
by the sea” in San Pareil (Parksville).
For
me, the heart and soul of Nantucket homes lay in the character and
warmth of their pine floors. There was a charm there and I needed
to capture that charm for my home. The house completed this Spring,
but not before an extensive search to find a source for lodge pole
pine which had been recommended as the most superior pine for flooring.
I was getting desperate to find a product I liked and my builder was
anxious to proceed on that part of house construction. Fate stepped
in and a chance meeting with a floor installer for The Woodland Floor
Company directed me to their website. I was so impressed by the website
I decided to visit the showroom in Comox.
Steve Roscoe’s obvious passion for providing a superior pine
floor and his extensive showroom of samples meant the search was over.
On seeing the blue beetle pine sample, I was hooked. It was exactly
what I was looking for. Loads of character and what I thought would
be a first-rate contrast for a white kitchen and soft yellow walls.
When friends visit, they tell me I’ve definitely captured that
timeless Nantucket look and, always, it is the beautiful floor they
notice first.
This little cottage near the sea gives me a sense of stepping back
in time, when life was very simple, when you swept the floor with
a broom and knew your floor would be here long after you are gone.
If I have a philosophy for life it is this,
“If you follow your dreams, and live the life that you imagine,
You will meet with success unexpected in common hours
